Adobe Photoshop illustration technique using masking with wood: I had a few instagram pics I loved and chose this one of Rollo, my Australian Shepherd laying on the couch.
I used my tablet instead of sketching on paper since I didn't have a scanner available, although I think "there's an app for that!"
I had trouble finding textures that worked together. Once I decided on using "wood" as a theme it came together much better. I also used "Levels" to adjust each texture to fit my tones.
